HOW TO USE: Make sure vise is securely mounted to the workbench and the swivel base lock is secure. Open the vise by turning the vise handle counterclockwise. Place item between the serrated jaws. Close the vise by turning the vise handle clockwise until the item is snug in the serrated jaws, continue to tighten until you can no longer move item. Don't over tighten as this may damage item and or the vise. When finished working on the item, turn screw handle counterclockwise to release the item. Surprisingly sturdy

This vice has held up very well. I thought it would be a little bigger in person but as long as you keep your expectations realistic it works great.

Only for lightweight use

Nothing wrong with the quality, but be warned this is for very lightweight tasks. If you need to torque anything the vise will move on you. Not meant for anything that will hang over the edges. If you try to use anything that will hang over the edges, the vice doesn’t have enough strength to stabilize these items.

Very small vise

This is a small vise! Buy a bigger one if you can. Needed this size to mount to the side of a tool box. No groove for pipes which is a downside. Only good for very light duty projects. Clamp makes it easy to move around and store when not in use.

Much better and handier than I suspected.

I needed a small yet tough mobile clamping vice. This fits the bill well. It’s not delicate at all and it’s certainly for a great price will be on a “modeling vice” or clamps. Happy.

I wanted a little clamp vise that had enough mass to it that it would not vibrate like crazy or flex when I did some medium-duty cutting and drilling. This mostly fits the bill but there are some kind of annoying things about it. The biggest thing is that the jaws are beveled a bit so that the top edge of the jaws meet but there is a gap that widens down through the rest of the jaw. This means that the clamping force is all at the very top of the jaws. It's hard to get a solid grip on larger pieces of material and they tend to slip sideways when working. It would have been nice if this had removable jaws. The little anvil on the back is a nice touch but it's very small. It seems like they could have faced it off a bit larger. Other than that it's got just enough mass to it that it doesn't vibrate or flex and it's not so heavy you can't put it in a normal drawer when not in use. I just wish it held a little tighter.

MADE IN CHINA

Bought this specific vise after reading good reviews about it and I make purchasing decisions made on where things are made. I opted for the "Taiwan Made" Yost COV-3 Model over the American one because of the extra 0.5" of Jaw Width. I do my absolute best not to buy goods made in China. Deceptive marketing by the seller has duped me. I would be sending this back if not for my need to finish a time sensitive project. Next time I will be paying the extra and buying 100% American when offered the option. 1/5 Stars based on this alone, Would give 0/5 If possible. Thanks Amazon, I will be buying less things from you now.

Flaw in the design

The vise itself is a sturdy little unit although as noted in other reviews the jaws are smooth and not textured like they are in the picture. The problem that I found, and I would say that this applies to the Irwin vise and others of this design, is that the two support bars and the threaded bar are all in line down the centre of the vise. What I found is that this made it impossible to hold anything tightly as the jaws flex as you tighten the vise. This is especially important if you are trying to hold something small or trying to hold something in the side of the vise for cutting or filing. In conclusion, it isn't a terrible vise, but for fine work I would consider other options.

No inserts from steel, cast iron is brittle, i they are getting damaged quickly. Large gap on stop screw, - wrong size screw. This is definitely not 5 stars, reviews are clueless as always. For ~40 it's poor quality.
